Clinical History:
An
18-year-old with renal transplant developed acute kidney infection.
Histology: Figure A
shows inflammatory cells within glomerular capillary
loops and increase in mesangial cellularity. PAS stain
in figure B shows double contours and thickening of
glomerular capillary walls. Tubular atrophy
and interstitial fibrosis as shown by the trichrome
stains in Figures C, D and E.
Special immunoperoxidase staining for C4d shows focal
areas of strong staining in the endothelium of capillary
vessels. |
